Essential MG

Essential MG

Review:

Essential MG tells the full story of this well loved sports car from its early days, covering developments in style, increases in power and its history in racing and speed trials. The first MG cars were produced in Oxford, England, in 1924. The car was instantly appealing with a cheekiness of spirit that was to characterize the marque all its life, winning hearts of millions around the globe, not least in the United States. The price was as attractive as the styling and the performance. It was cheap and it was fun - quintessential MG traits.

Review:

The second edition of this highly respected history brings the evocative story of MG right up to date. This large-format, well-illustrated book charts all MGs from 1923 to the present-day TF sports car and saloons, concentrating along the way on models with particularly strong interest to classic car enthusiasts, such as the T-types, the MGA and the MGB - the most popular British sports car ever. The authoritative text is supported with buying tips, personal impressions of individual models, and data boxes on topics as varied as the Le Mans TC, the XPAG engine, and the Metro 6R4 rally car.

Review:

MG sports cars are regarded always with affection by those who drive them, and with respect by those who know anything about automotive history. Author F. Wilson McComb was, for more than a decade, part of the team who built the marvellous postwar MGs which won the company's reputation for building stylish models that promised, and delivered, "Safety Fast"; subsequently it took the author more than ten years to write this definitive history... universally admired as the best that has been written on MG. Jonathan Wood brings the story up-to-date, analyzing the resurgence of the marque as part of the Rover Group.

Review:

I was really glad I bought this book, as my car appears in it! (Mk2 Midget, 1964). I didn't know this when I ordered the book. The book is a useful chronological account of all the cars that wore (and still wear!) one of most famous and easily recognised car marques in the world. There is an entry for each particular mark of each model, and each entry is accompanied by picture of the correct model/mark (mostly colour photos). At the end of book is a detailed chronological listing of all the notable dates in the history of the MG marque. If you are an MG enthusiast, you probably have access to all the information in this book elsewhere, but this is probably spread around in a number of other books, so this little book will probably be a welcome addition to your collection. My only grumble is that book could be a little bigger dimension wise, so that pictures could be made larger.
